How do you throw an Alley oop in NBA 2k12

YUP!  People are asking again.  Everyone wants to show boat on the break, and to be honest I totally understand.  This is probably one of my favorite things to do on the break.  For Those of you that want the quick answer skip over the next paragraph and straight to the bottom.  For the others that want to know what situation work best, keep on reading.

While I can certainly give you the recipe for the perfect alley-oop, the ingredients are key in concocting the perfect alley-oop.  The key to increasing the success of an alley-oop depends greatly on the environment in which you throw an alley-oop and the player that are involved in the offensive side and the defensive side.  So what do I mean when is ay the environment?  Essential I addressing the players and situation in which it is best to throw the alley-oop.  For instance, if you are playing half court offense the success of an alley-oop decreases greatly given the congestion of players in the lane.  The very few times that I see a successful alley-oop thrown is when your run a back door cut (I recommend using Total control passing) or back door pick that leads to a cut towards the basket.  This is one of the few time that there is success in the delivery of an alleoop in half court offense.  However, the success rate will be frustratingly low even when ran with the aforementioned plays.  Personally, unless I am up by 20 and just trying to showboat in an effort to crush my opponents self esteem, it is rare I will throw an alley-oop in these situations.  The prime time to throw an alley-oop is during the break ( a 2 on 1 situation works best, 3 on 1/2 I find only means that your alley-oop is probably not going to go to right person and end up being blocked).   When attempting the an alley-oop on the break you want to get the defender(s) to commit to the ball handler, hence giving the trailing man enough room to throw it down.  The prime spot that you want to throw the alley-oop in is the spacing between free-throw line and down low in the key.  If you throw from too far your chances of success decrease and give defenders a better chance of batting it out of the air.

When throwing an alley-oop the greatest chances for success comes with a player that has high passing rating and player that has a high dunking rating (I am guessing I don’t need to explain the role that each plays when executing the alley-oop).

How to Execute a Regular Alley-oop in NBA 2k12

Hold the left trigger (L2 on PS3) and press B (circle on PS3)

How do you throw and off the glass Alley-oop?

This one is a little tricky and I recommend only trying on the break.  To execute this move you have to have a teammate trailing behind you and want to hold the left trigger (L2 on PS3) and hold up toward the basket and press B (circle on PS3).  Good luck with this one!  The alley-oop by itself is hard enough.  This one kicks the difficulty up a notch.

If you aren’t using the xbox controller, the alternative for throwing an alley oop on PC is Tab and the Numpad 0
